19.1. Steering column installation details 1. Retaining plate; 2. Shear bolts, 15 Nm; 3. Steering column; 4. Ignition switch; 5. Bolt with washer, 22 Nm; 6. Steering mechanism
2. Remove the steering wheel (see Section 18).
3. Pull out the steering column and tilt it. Remove the bolts (3-5 in the illustration), separate the upper steering column cover (2) from the lower cover (1) and remove both covers. Remove the steering column paddle shifters.
19.3. Steering column pads
4. To prevent the upper section of the steering column from extending too far from the lower section, the column should be secured by pulling a clamp or wire through the hole in the lower section of the steering column (arrow on the illustration) and a spring, or through a spring and a hinge. Disconnect the connectors of the ignition switch and the immobilizer transponder.
19.4. Fixing the steering column
5. On models with AT/CVT, release the locking plate. To do this, set the selector lever to the "P" position, turn on the ignition (In the illustration) and slightly lift the locking part (1) and pull the cable (2) out of the ignition switch housing.
19.5. Separating the cable from the ignition switch
6. Loosen the bolt (arrow on the illustration) and pull the lower part of the steering column out of the steering gear.
19.6. Steering column to steering gear mounting bolt
7. Remove the bolts (1 in the illustration) and remove the steering column.
19.7. Steering column mounting bolts
8. Knock out the shear bolts if necessary (1 in the illustration) and remove the ignition switch (2).
19.8. Ignition switch fastener
9. Make sure the gap (And in the illustration) between the slider and the support bracket is no more than 0.5 mm. Otherwise, replace the steering column.
19.9. Control gap
10. The new steering column is supplied with a transport lock, which should be removed after installing the column on the vehicle.
11. Installation is performed in the reverse order of dismantling the components. Please note the following features.
12. Bolts (1 in illustration 19.7) first tighten it by hand only, then tighten the column on the steering gear by hand and align it with the gear pinion so that there is no tension. Only then tighten the steering column mounting bolts to the retaining plate and the column mounting bolt to the steering gear. Remove the transport lock.
13. To secure the AT lock cable, first turn on the ignition (In the illustration), move the selector lever to the "P" position, insert the cable (2) into the ignition switch housing and make sure that part (1) is engaged. Check the correct operation of the AT lock.
