1. Apply the handbrake, start the engine.
2. Engage 3rd gear, then slowly engage the clutch and depress the accelerator pedal.
3. If the clutch is in perfect condition, then the engine stalls.
4. If the engine continues to run, it means it's time to replace the clutch.
What causes clutch wear?
Pulling away at high rpm (cavalry start) or in 2nd gear leads to severe wear of the friction linings. If you do not take your foot off the clutch pedal while driving, the clutch constantly rubs slightly. Such a regime for a long time is not able to withstand even the best overlays. The bad habit of keeping the car on a slope with the help of the clutch pedal and the accelerator pedal is just as bad for the lining. The clutch wears out also if you have a habit of waiting for a green traffic light with 1st gear engaged and the clutch pedal depressed. In this case, the bearing is heavily loaded. It is better to disengage the clutch while the red light is on, and engage 1st gear only when the traffic light switches to yellow.
