The ignition system is classified as a hazardous device according to legal regulations. When working on the ignition system, special safety measures must be observed, so it is better to leave this work to the workshop. However, special care must be taken even during maintenance work.
With the ignition on, in no case touch the current-carrying parts of the primary and secondary circuits, this is life threatening!
When the engine is running and at starting speed, never touch or remove high voltage wires!
Always switch off the ignition during all maintenance and repair work. This also applies to the replacement of spark plugs as well as the connection of test instruments.
With the ignition on, a single shock of the car is enough to cause a high voltage pulse to be excited on the spark plug. In the case of work in the engine compartment, it is life threatening. In addition, parts of the ignition system may be damaged.
When welding from the battery, both wires must be disconnected.
If it is necessary that the engine rotates at starting speed, but does not start, for example, when checking compression pressure, unplug the connectors from the ignition coils and valve injectors.
Turn off the ignition when connecting or disconnecting the battery to protect the engine control unit.
