1. Are the wires and multi-pin plugs securely attached to the ignition coils and control unit? High voltage wires must be securely inserted into the sockets. If the air trapped in the sockets is heated, the wires may rise slightly and cause engine malfunctions. If a solid fit of the wires on the spark plugs is not ensured, then leakage currents and flashovers may occur due to high voltage.
2. Check the housings of the ignition coils, they should not have cracks or burn marks (due to breakdown).
3. Check the condition of the wires. The wires must not be frayed. Worn and melted wires, as well as wires with traces of a break, should be replaced immediately.
4. If there is a layer of road salt on the wires, remove it.
