Please note that the engine control unit is self-diagnostic. When the connector is removed from the control unit, all parameters determined during the self-learning of the system are erased, however, the data recorded in the fault memory is retained.
The parameters are checked in accordance with the above table of parameters of the ignition and fuel injection system. During some checks, the control device can determine some kind of malfunction and store its code in memory. Therefore, at the end of all checks and repairs, the fault memory must be interrogated and, if necessary, the data stored there deleted (In workshop!).
If, after troubleshooting, repairing or checking parts, the engine starts for a short time and then immediately stalls, the cause may be that the engine control device is blocked by an anti-theft device. In this case, the fault memory must be interrogated again and, if necessary, the controller must be adapted.
Disabling the ignition system
If the engine is turned by the starter with the main high voltage wire removed, the control device will inevitably be damaged. Therefore, in order to prevent a malfunction of the control device, during some work, the ignition system must be switched off.
To disable the ignition system, first remove the engine cover. Then, with the ignition off, remove the connectors from the powerful final stages.
