Removal and installation rear wheel brake pads (Audi A4 B6)

Removal and installation of rear disc brake pads is basically the same as on the front wheels. When describing the working operations, we only point out the differences. For example, on the rear axle, it is necessary to remove the handbrake cable. In addition, when pressing the brake cylinder piston, it is necessary to use special tool 3272. When pressing the piston without this tool, you can damage the mechanism for adjusting the gap between the brake pads and the brake disc, which is used for automatic adjustment of the handbrake.

1. To release the handbrake cable, pull out the lock washer 1. Make sure that the cable corrugated cover is not damaged in the process.



2. Remove the mounting screws from the brake caliper housing. In doing so, hold the guide pin with a fork wrench.

3. After dismantling the retaining springs, remove the brake pads. If you intend to use the pads again, mark them and install them in their original location.

4. The brake caliper can only be cleaned with alcohol, do not use any wire brushes.

5. Using special tool 3272, press the piston into the caliper. Gradually press the piston by pressing hard on it and turning the lead screw to the right. The tool belt (arrow) should be adjacent to the caliper.





6. Remove the protective film from the back of the brake pads and install them together with the retaining springs.

7. Screw the caliper with new self-locking screws.

8. Attach the handbrake cable.

9. After installation is complete, adjust the handbrake.
