ADP and AHL engines (SOHC)
1. Remove the camshaft sprocket as described in paragraph 5.
2. Drill two small opposite holes in the oil seal to be replaced. Wrap a self-tapping screw in them and, pulling them with pliers, remove the gland. Be careful not to drill through the stuffing box or camshaft seal.
3. Clean the seating surface in the stuffing box housing with a lint-free cloth. Remove any burrs to prevent premature damage to the seal.
4. Lubricate the oil seal with clean engine oil and install it in the housing.
5. Using a hammer and a arbor or head, press the gland evenly into the body.
Note: As a mandrel, you can choose a head that rests only on the outer hard edges of the stuffing box.
6. Install the camshaft sprocket as described in paragraph 5.
ADR, AFY, AEB and AJL engines (DOHC)
7. Remove the exhaust camshaft seal as described in p. 1...6. The removal of the intake camshaft oil seal is described below.
8. Remove the accessory drive belts as described in paragraph 6. Remove the tensioner at the front of the engine with a hex key.
9. Disconnect the wiring from the Hall sensor mounted ahead of the intake camshaft.
10. Unfasten and remove the upper timing belt cover.
11. Turn away a bolt of fastening and remove knot of the gauge of the Hall from a head of cylinders.
12. Note the position of the Hall sensor rotor and washer. Unscrew the central bolt and remove the rotor with the washer. The rotor is fixed in the slot of the toe of the intake camshaft.
13. Drill two small opposite holes in the oil seal to be replaced. Wrap a self-tapping screw in them and, pulling them with pliers, remove the gland. Be careful not to drill through the stuffing box or camshaft seal.
14. Clean the stuffing box housing with a lint-free cloth. Remove any burrs that could damage the seal prematurely.
15. Lubricate the stuffing box with clean engine oil and put it on the camshaft, pushing it to the housing. To prevent damage to the oil seal by the sharp edges of the shaft, wrap them with adhesive tape (pic. 8.15).
16. Using a hammer and a suitable cylindrical mandrel, press the stuffing box evenly into the body.
Note: For a mandrel, select a head that rests only on the outer hard edges of the stuffing box.
17. Install the Hall sensor rotor on the shaft, aligning it with the slot. Install washer and bolt and tighten to specified torque.
18. Install the Halle sensor assembly to the cylinder head and secure with the bolt to the specified torque.
19. Install the upper timing belt cover, aligning it correctly with the lower cover and secure with latches.
20. Connect the wiring to the Hall sensor.
21. Install the tensioner on the front of the engine. Tighten the mounting bolts to the prescribed torque.
22. Install accessory drive belts - see paragraph 6.
