2. Apply the handbrake, raise the front of the vehicle and install safety stands.
3. Have an assistant turn the steering wheel half a turn in each direction. Tighten the self-locking adjusting screw one eighth of a turn at a time until all play is eliminated (Fig. 23.3).

4. Lower the vehicle and drive. If the steering wheel does not return back without the driver's assistance after exiting a turn, gradually loosen the nut to restore its normal operation.
5. If, when the steering wheel returns normally, there is still some play, reduce it with the adjusting nut by turning it one eighth of a turn.
6. If the above adjustments do not give the desired result, the rack may be worn beyond the permissible limit, the mechanism must be removed and repaired.
