The Audi A4 dispenses with the traditional brake force regulator for the rear wheels. Instead of mechanical or hydraulic pressure control, a hydraulic ABS module is used for electronic brake force distribution (Elektronische Bremskraft-Verteilung). This is done by the ABS control unit.
The control unit monitors the deceleration of each rear wheel via a speed sensor and compares the values of the front and rear axles. If the difference between the speeds of the front and rear wheels is too great during braking, the pressure on the rear brakes is reduced via electromagnetic valves in the hydraulic module. In this way, excessive braking of the rear axle is prevented, and the Audi remains in the track.
