Engines 170 hp with the designation 7A are equipped with the so-called MPI injection system. MPI means that the moment and duration of injection for each cylinder is calculated separately. In the MPI system, fuel injection and ignition are controlled by one common control unit. Each injection valve is under the same constant pressure. The injection valves are controlled by electromagnetic pulses from the control unit. The amount of injection for each cylinder is determined by the duration of the open state of the valve. The injection and ignition timing is calculated from a characteristic stored in the memory of the control device based on an analysis of the number of revolutions, engine temperature, gas pedal position, load mode, and shift point (for automatic transmission).
To control the electronics of the MPI system, special equipment is required. Inspection and repair work should be carried out only in a specialized repair shop.
