Attention: A 10 mm wrench with a flexible extension is required for adjustment.
Raise the car.
Release the handbrake
Tighten the handbrake cable adjusting nut on the linkage until both levers are lifted from the stops on the brake calipers. Here you need to resort to the help of an assistant.
Then unscrew the adjusting nut two turns back.
To check several times with a screwdriver, press the lever on the brake caliper to the stop.
If at the same time the lever on the opposite caliper is pulled away from the stop, the brake caliper cable is too tight.
Turn the adjusting nut back so that the levers rest on the stops.
Apply the handbrake and release it again.
Check if both wheels turn freely. If necessary, check the ease of movement of the brake actuator.
Lower the car.
Cars with drum brakes
Thanks to automatic brake pad adjustment, handbrake adjustment is only necessary if the handbrake lever or cable has been replaced.
Raise the car.
Release the handbrake.
Loosen the handbrake cable adjusting nut to the limit.
Press the brake pedal firmly once.
Tighten the handbrake lever two clicks.
Tighten the adjusting nut until both wheels can barely be turned by hand.
Release the handbrake and check that both wheels turn freely.
