Note. A prerequisite for successful basic setting is the previous calibration of the steering wheel angle sender -G85- using the steering wheel calibration device -U4S 6458-.
A basic adjustment is required if: the dynamic steering system control unit -J792- is replaced; the toe angle of the front wheels is adjustable; rear wheel toe angles are adjustable; changes were made to the vehicle's chassis, for example, replacing the standard chassis with a sports one; The steering angle sensor -G85- has been calibrated; The steering column was replaced; When driving straight, the steering wheel is not level.
Note. Before basic setting of the dynamic steering system, the fault memory must be read and the faults rectified if necessary. Basic adjustment of the dynamic steering system may only be carried out on a wheel alignment stand recommended by VW/AUDI. The following figure shows the location of parts -2- and -3- on vehicles with the steering wheel on the left; on vehicles with the steering wheel on the right, parts -2- and -3- are located in mirror images.
I 1. Vane pump. The control valve is installed only on a gasoline engine. The vane pump and control valve are one unit and are replaced together. Installation position on vehicles with 4- and 6-cylinder engines: on the engine front left (belt drive); 2. Regulator. Do not unscrew or separate from the steering column. The regulator and steering column are one unit and are replaced together. When replacing the regulator, the system should be recalibrated; 3. Used active steering system -J792-. When replacing the dynamic steering system control unit -J792-, the system must be recalibrated
Removing the active steering control unit -J792-
The used dynamic steering system -J792- is located in the footwell, under the driver's seat. Before removing the control unit, read the coding using "Guided troubleshooting" in function "Replacing the control unit". Unscrew the bolts of the driver's seat and move it back with the connected wires. Remove the sill trim. Remove the footrest. Bend back the floor covering and support it with a suitable piece of wood -6-. Unscrew the nuts -7-. Unscrew the nuts -1- and remove the ground wire -2- from the grub screw. Carefully remove the wiring harness clamp -3- from the bracket -4-. Disconnect the plug connectors of the wiring harness -3- from the control unit -8-. Unscrew the bolts -5- from the control unit -8- and remove the holder -4-.
Installation
Install in reverse order. The following must be taken into account: observe the installation sequence of the control unit. Tighten the bolts -5- of the bracket -4- on the control unit -8- to a torque of 8 Nm. Connect the plug connectors of the wiring harness -3- to the control unit -8-. Carefully insert the wiring harness clamp -3- into the bracket -4-. Install the control unit with holder. Install the ground cable -2- onto the threaded pin and tighten the nuts -1- to a torque of 6 Nm. Tighten nuts -7- to 6 Nm. If the dynamic steering system control unit -J792- is replaced, the system must be recalibrated.
Tightening torques
