The sensor for the automatic distance control and the distance control control unit "J428" are installed in the same housing. If the sensor/control unit is faulty, the entire unit must be replaced. In the following description, the sensor/control unit is called "sensor". The sensor is located behind the right air duct grille on the front bumper. Malfunctions may occur if the sensor is dirty. To avoid this, remove the air duct grille in front of the sensor according to the repair manual and clean the sensor. Before adjusting the adaptive cruise control, the event memory must first be interrogated and faults must be rectified. In "Measured value block 2" of the ACC control unit, it must be determined whether only a small adjustment of the sensor is necessary. The adaptive cruise control may only be adjusted using a wheel alignment device and an adaptive cruise control adjustment device that have VW/AUDI approval! Correct alignment is a prerequisite for flawless operation of the ACC.

Note: A new alignment is required if: the rear wheel toe angles are adjusted; automatic distance control sensor "G550" is replaced in assembly; straightening work on the right side member was carried out; there is damage on the front of the car. The adjustment error angle is outside the permissible range of -0.8°- +0.8°.
