Control lever positions

When the ignition is on, the instrument cluster displays the actual position of the control lever. This illustration shows position "P".

R - parking lock

The drive wheels are locked by means of kinematic links. The parking lock can only be used after the vehicle has stopped.

To set the lever to the "P" position, first press it down. When switching from the "R" position to the "P" position, this does not need to be done.

To move the shift lever from the "P" position with the ignition on, press the brake pedal and push the lever down.

R - reverse gear

Reverse gear can only be engaged after the vehicle has stopped and the engine is idling. Before shifting to the "R" position, push the lever down. When the ignition is on and the control lever is set to the "R" position, the reversing lights are on.

N - neutral position (idle position)

To move the control lever from the "N" position at a speed of less than 5 km/h, as well as when the vehicle is stationary and the ignition is on, press the brake pedal.

D - the basic position when moving forward

Automatic switching to higher and lower gears within the four gearbox stages is carried out depending on the engine load, speed and driving program.

In driving mode, under certain conditions, it may be preferable to temporarily move the control lever to one of the positions described below.

3 - position for driving on roads in hilly areas

This position is recommended for frequent shifting from 3rd to 2nd gear and back, with the control lever in the main position "D".

4th gear is locked. This slightly increases the braking effect of the engine when the accelerator pedal is released.

2 - position for movement in the mountains

This lever position is suitable for overcoming long descents and ascents. 3rd and 4th gears are locked. This avoids useless upshifting and increases the engine braking effect.

1 - position for overcoming steep slopes

Recommended for overcoming very steep climbs and descents - especially when driving with a trailer. To engage, press the control lever down. Once engaged, the car moves only in 1st gear. This achieves maximum braking effect of the engine.

When manually downshifting, the control lever can be set to positions "3", "2" and "1". However, the automatic transmission will only switch after it becomes impossible to increase engine speed in a variable manner.
