This chapter describes some repairs that you can do yourself. In particular, you can read here how to remove and install the door trim, sun visor and rear-view mirror. The center console, for example, has to be removed when working on the handbrake. Troubleshooting tips will help you repair faulty window lifters and the central door locking system.

The front part of the saloon is designed very clearly and precisely. All controls are within the driver's reach

The designers managed to create maximum space and comfort in the Audi A4, as well as great possibilities for placing cargo. The interior is even more spacious than in the previous model. The front seats have a new design, as well as clear and precisely designed instruments that are within the driver's reach.

A4 Avant

The dimensions of the new A4 Avant alone prove that the new generation of Audi has made a real leap forward. The overall length of the car is 454 cm. The wheelbase has increased by 33 mm compared to the previous model. The free space in front of the knees of rear passengers has increased by 43 mm. The increase in the width of the car to 1766 mm has also significantly improved comfort: at the level of the elbows of passengers, the interior width of the body has increased by 17 mm at the front, and by as much as 29 mm at the rear.

The luggage compartment with a flat loading surface also offers new quality: the overall loading width is 1000 mm. This was made possible by the compact design of the rear axle, which is used in the currently produced saloon. The specific requirements for the luggage compartment in the A4 Avant were already taken into account at the design stage of the basic design.

The luggage compartment capacity of the new A4 Avant has increased by 52 dm³: 442 dm³ instead of the previous 390 dm³.

A4 Cabrio

The A4 convertible was a success at the 2001 International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main. The open four-seater car has impressive technical innovations in the field of safety and an attractive interior design.

Trunk

By folding the rear seats, the trunk volume in the Avant can be increased and bulky cargo can be transported, and if necessary, it can be used for sleeping - you will not experience any particular inconvenience.

Buyers of the Audi A4 with folding rear seat backrests can also purchase the patented protective tray for the luggage compartment. For 160 euros, you get a rigidly mounted tray, which fits snugly against the backrest of the rear seats when folded, and is released using a handle located under the shelf near the rear window. The tray can also be installed as an optional extra. The tray is suitable for a variety of luggage compartment configurations, from a luggage compartment with the seats in a normal position to a luggage compartment with the backrests completely folded down. The ski carrier can be used as usual. The luggage compartment capacity remains unchanged. The protective tray is water-resistant, although a small amount of water may accumulate in front of the rear end trim. This water, like other dirt, is easy to remove.

Do-it-yourself interior repair

There are areas in the passenger compartment that should not be repaired by yourself. These include three-point seat belts with automatic retraction mechanisms. They cannot be repaired because the seat belt tensioner in the automatic retraction mechanism tightens the belt with a small explosion when the appropriate signal is received. The side airbags, which are located in the seat backs, also await the appropriate command. We strongly advise against working with components that contain dangerous technical devices. Even in workshops, only specially trained personnel are allowed to check, install and repair these parts. These technicians are required to very scrupulously follow the relevant safety regulations. The risk of injury during repairs is only one side of the issue. A situation where the airbag does not deploy in an accident can lead to much more serious consequences.

Locations where airbags are installed: 1 - driver's airbag, 2 - airbag for the sports steering wheel, 3 - control device for the airbag, 4 - key switch to turn off the front passenger's airbag, 5 - front passenger airbag, 6 - light bulb "PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF" ("Passenger airbag off"), 7-head airbag (sedan), 8-head airbag (station wagon), 9-front side airbag, 10 - transverse acceleration sensor on the second pillar, 11-transverse acceleration sensor on the third pillar, 12-rear side airbag (reclining backrest), 13 - rear side airbag (rigidly fixed back), 14 - diagnostic connector, 15 - lateral acceleration sensor on the front.

Air conditioner

In the Audi A4, automatic regulation of the air conditioning system with air recirculation is activated by an air quality sensor. The difficulties of repairing the air conditioner are not so much related to the fact that it is necessary to observe safety regulations, but to the fact that this technology is quite complex. The air conditioner automatically maintains the appropriate temperature in the car. Air temperature and distribution, as well as fan speed (amount of air) change automatically. Strong solar radiation is also taken into account. Manual adjustment becomes unnecessary. The air conditioner control unit processes a large amount of data that comes from various sensors. The entire unit is controlled by electric servomotors. All air flaps move automatically. In addition, the control unit controls the compressor's electromagnetic clutch.

The following standard settings are recommended for all seasons: Set the temperature to 22°C and press the button to AUTO. These control positions will achieve the appropriate conditions in the cabin most quickly. These settings should only be changed if necessary. For the system to function perfectly, the air inlet in front of the windscreen must be
