Note: Check with your dealer for availability of spare parts - at the time of this writing, only internal boots for shafts with a diameter of 32 mm were supplied as spare parts.
32. Remove the outer hinge as described in p.p. 2...6. It is recommended to replace the outer cover as well (in preventive chains), regardless of its condition.
33. Loosen the clamps and pull the inner joint cover off the drive shaft. If necessary, the cover can be cut - the task will be simplified.
34. Thoroughly wash the hinge with kerosene and dry. Check the tripod bearings for wear and damage. Bearing rollers should rotate smoothly and without binding (pic. 3.34).
35. If the hinge is found to be unusable, the entire shaft is replaced. since the hinge is not supplied separately as spare parts. If the hinge is in satisfactory condition, it is advisable to purchase a repair kit, which consists of a new boot, a retaining spring ring, clamps, a washer, a bushing and the required amount of grease of the prescribed type. Although this is not absolutely necessary. replace the cover of the outer hinge, regardless of its condition.
36. Pack the hinge with grease. Distribute it evenly over the hinge by turning it (pic. 3.36).
37. Clean the shaft with sandpaper from rust and burrs so as not to damage the boot during installation. Wrap the pins with tape and lubricate the protrusions of the shaft for the same purpose.
38. Put a new boot on the shaft and gently pry it over the protrusion on the shaft, being careful not to damage the boot (pic. 3.38, a, b).
39. Lay the outer edge of the boot into the groove of the outer race and the inner edge into the groove on the shaft.
39. Lift the inside hem to equalize the air pressure in the boot with atmospheric pressure. Install both clamps and squeeze the protruding part to tighten the clamps. If there is no special tool, you can do it carefully enough with wire cutters (do not overdo it - do not bite the clamp).
40. Install the inner hinge as described p.p. 11...17 (pic. 3.40).
