Removal
1. Place chocks under the front wheels, raise the rear of the vehicle and place safety stands under the jacking points. Remove both rear wheels.
2. Remove the screws securing the heat shields above the middle section of the exhaust system. Move the shields to the side to gain access to the handbrake adjusting sleeves as described in paragraph 14 chapter 9. As described in paragraph 16 of Chapter 9, disconnect the handbrake cables from the calipers and from all mountings on the beam.
3. Clamp the brake hoses in suitable places. After this, disconnect the rear brake pipes from the calipers. Wrap them and plug the calipers thoroughly to prevent dirt from getting in. Immediately wash off any spilled fluid.
4. On models with xenon headlights, disconnect the vehicle level sensor rod as described in chapter 12.
5. Install jacks or stands on both sides of the beam and transfer the weight of the beam to them.
6. Unscrew the lower bolts of the rack mountings (on both sides) and disconnect the posts from the beam as described in paragraph 11.
7. Remove the ABS wheel sensors as described in paragraph 19 of chapter 9. Release the wiring from the fasteners and move it away from the beam to avoid damage.
8. Make sure everything is disconnected from the beam and will not be damaged when removing the beam. Make sure the beam supports are secure.
9. Unscrew the nuts of the axle bolts of the longitudinal levers of the squirrel and remove the bolts from the supports. Then lower and together with an assistant remove the beam from under the car.
12. If necessary, the rubber bushings of the levers can be replaced. Remove the outer bushing, then the inner bushing using a suitable puller. Do not press out the support, since its seat can be deformed.
11. Dip the new bushings in soapy water to lubricate them when installing. Press each bushing from the outside with a puller so that the arrows on their outer surface point forward.
Installation
12. Installation is the reverse procedure. After installing the beam in its place, tighten the mounting bolts with nuts. Perform the final tightening with the prescribed torque only after the assembly is completed and the car is installed on the wheels.
13. Connect the brake pipes, handbrake cables and ABS wiring, routing them correctly. Bleed the hydraulic system, adjust the handbrake and install the ABS sensors as described in paragraph 19 of chapter 9.
14. On models with xenon headlights, connect the vehicle level sensor cable as described in chapter 12.
15. Finally, check the rear track angles. The toe-in of the solid beam is not adjustable, but the toe-in of each wheel can be adjusted individually by loosening the mounting bolts and moving the mounting brackets. However, these attempts require specialized equipment; therefore, please contact your dealer or a specialist workshop for assistance.
