If a healthy wheel, balanced on the vehicle, is to be remounted, for example after a brake test, it must be screwed to the wheel hub in the same position as before. To do this, mark the mounting position of the rim and hub (arrows) as shown here.
The imbalance of the wheels is felt by vibration in the steering wheel and shaking in the front of the car. This is especially pronounced at certain speeds. The reason lies in the uneven distribution of weight on the wheel.
Wheel balancing
Wheels must be statically and dynamically balanced. There are two methods for this:
Order of execution
1. The wheel of the machine is removed and placed on the balancing machine. There it rotates to check. Thanks to this, information is obtained about the imbalance, which is leveled by adding lead weights.
2. Precise balancing is required to eliminate residual imbalance. This equalizes the imbalance of the wheel hub and the brake disc. The wheels on the machine are driven at the correct speed by a friction disc motor, and thus the residual imbalance is obtained. It is again leveled with lead weights.
3. To accurately balance the wheels of the Audi A4, all four wheels of the car must be raised.
4. Due to the lack of its own drive, the rear wheels in a front-wheel drive Audi are driven by an electric motor with a friction wheel during dynamic balancing.
