The properties and features of these tire sizes are described here. You will find out which tire and rim combinations are suitable for your car in the technical passport of your car.
- The standard size 195/65 R 15 is very suitable for the A4. As for the driving characteristics, it can be said almost the same: 195s are quite sufficient, including for models with more powerful engines. The advantage: narrower tires have lower rolling resistance and lower noise when rotating.
- The most attractive feature of the 205/60 R 15 or 205/60 R 16 tyres is their appearance. The more expensive tyre has a slightly longer service life and slightly improved driving characteristics compared to the 195.
- The subsequent conversion is of interest to those who drive very smoothly and like the appearance of the tires.
- The 205/60 R 15 tire can be mounted on the same rims as the 195.
- The situation is different with 205/55 R 16 tires: they can only be installed on 7 J X 16 rims.
Winter tires
- If your car has standard 195/65 R 15 tyres, then, depending on the terrain, you may be able to drive on summer tyres in winter, provided the tread depth is sufficient.
- The situation is worse with wide-profile 205 tires. They are more prone - the "rigid" version of class V or W is no exception - to slipping on snow and ice. In this case, it is unlikely that you will be able to avoid purchasing special winter tires.
- Among winter tyres, you have a choice between traditional M+S tyres, which can be driven at speeds of up to 160 km/h, and higher-speed tyres with a permitted speed of up to 190 km/h.
- In vehicles that can travel at speeds exceeding the design speed limit, winter tires (see at the beginning of the chapter), a notice should be placed on the dashboard with information about the maximum speed allowed for the tires.
- An M+S tyre with a tread depth of less than 4 mm is no longer suitable for winter. If, for example, winter tyres are prescribed in the mountains, M+S tyres are only considered as such if their tread depth is at least 4 mm.
