  • Automatic transmission — checking the oil level
            0
The automatic transmission is filled with automatic transmission oil (ATF DEXRON).

To check, the oil in the automatic transmission must be at operating temperature. The oil level in automatic transmissions depends on the oil temperature. If it is cold, the level is low. After a long trip, the oil level is usually high.

1. Drive about 10 km to warm up the oil.

2. Apply the parking brake and move the gearshift lever to the "P" position.

3. Start the engine and let it idle.

4. Remove the oil level indicator (dipstick), located, when viewed in the direction of travel, at the rear of the left side of the engine (see illustration).

4. Remove the oil level indicator (dipstick), located, when viewed in the direction of travel, at…

5. Wipe the dipstick with a clean, lint-free cloth.

6. Insert the dipstick back and remove it again. The oil level should be between both marks. The volume of transmission oil between the upper and lower marks on the dipstick is 0.23 liters. The mark on the tip of the dipstick is intended for measurements when changing transmission oil poured in cold.

Attention! In previous years, transmission oil was transparent or pink. Nowadays, transmission oil acquires a black-brown tint during operation.

If the oil on the dipstick has a burnt smell, this indicates a defect in the automatic transmission.

If the oil level in the automatic transmission is low, then before adding oil to the transmission, you should make sure that the transmission is sealed. All work related to the leakage of the automatic transmission should be entrusted to a workshop.

Too high a gearbox oil level is a consequence of a defective sealing gasket between the planetary gear and the final drive. Check the oil level in the final drive of the automatic transmission. If the oil level in the final drive is low, contact the workshop to replace the gasket and automatic transmission oil.

If the oil level in the main gear is normal, then remove excess oil from the automatic transmission, because this can lead to a defect in the transmission.

For the final drive of cars with automatic transmission, oil for manual transmission is not suitable. It must have a viscosity of SAE 90 and meet one of the specifications:
  • API GL 5 or
  • MIL-L-2105 B.

For diesel engines, the final drive oil must have a viscosity of SAE 75 W 90 and meet one of the following specifications:
  • G 052 145 A1 or
  • G 052 145 A21.

Oil change is not provided. However, it is necessary to check the oil level in the main gear.

Under normal vehicle operating conditions, the maintenance plan provides for the replacement of transmission oil in the automatic transmission at 60,000 km. At the same time, the old oil is removed, and the oil pan and sieve are washed. All work must be performed in a workshop.
