- Open the oil filler cap and check the absence of porosity in the sealing ring
- Check the fastening of the ventilation hoses from the oil filler cap to the air filter
Check:
- Head cover gasket
- cylinder head gasket
- Places of fastening of a flange of the distributor of ignition
- Oil filter seal and oil filter at oil filter flange
- Oil drain plug (sealing ring)
- Oil pan gasket
- Connection between engine and gearbox (flywheel or gearbox shaft seal)
- O-rings for distribution, secondary and crankshafts (from the toothed belt)
Since oil spills over a large area of the engine when leaks occur, it is difficult to determine the location of a leak at a glance. When searching, it is advisable to do the following:
- Wash the engine. Spray the engine with normal engine detergent and after a while pour water over it. Before that, close the plastic bags to distribute the ignition and the generator.
- Sprinkle talc or lime on joints and gaskets.
- Check oil level, correct if necessary.
- Carry out a test drive Since oil thins when the engine is hot and leaks through leaks more quickly, a test drive should be carried out at a distance of about 30 km on the motorway.
- Inspect the engine with a lamp, localize leaks and eliminate defects.
