- open the oil filler cap and check the cap gasket for porosity and damage;
- the crankcase ventilation system, in particular the fastening of the crankcase ventilation hose to the cylinder head cover;
- cylinder head cover gasket;
- cylinder head gasket;
- oil drain plug;
- gasket on the oil filter flange;
- oil pan gasket;
- front and rear crankshaft seals.
Due to the fact that the oil spreads over a large area, it is therefore difficult to determine the location of the leak at first glance. To search, it is advisable to perform the following steps.
- Close the generator with a plastic bag, wash and dry the engine.
- In places where oil leakage is possible, spray lime or talcum powder.
- Check the engine oil level and top up if necessary.
- Carry out a test drive for approximately 30 km on the highway. Since the oil in a warm engine becomes thinner, it will begin to flow through the leak more quickly.
- Examine the engine with a lamp, locate and repair the leak.
