Mechanical fuel pump — removal and installation (Audi 80 B3)

1. The fuel pump is located on the left side of the engine and is driven by an eccentric on the intermediate shaft.

2. Loosen the clamps and disconnect the hose from the inlet (photo).



3. Use a socket wrench to loosen the mounting bolts, then remove the fuel pump from the cylinder block (photo).



4. Remove the seal flange and O-ring (photo).





5. The pump can be checked by connecting it to the fuel supply hose and pressing the lever manually, directing the rotation in the desired direction. Fuel should splash out well. If the pump is defective, replace it, as it is not serviceable.



6. Clean the connection surface, then install the pump with a new O-ring and seal flange. Make sure the lever is on top of the camshaft eccentric. Insert and tighten the mounting bolts to the tightening torque specified in the Specification (photo).
