1. Follow the Chapter 16 or 23. Make sure the engine is warmed up to normal operating temperature and the ignition timing is set correctly. Also check that the crankcase ventilation system, EGR valve, catalytic converter and Lambda sensor are functioning correctly. The air filter element should also be in good condition.

4. Place the car over the inspection pit. Start the engine and set the idle mode, check for leaks from the exhaust system. Also check for signs of damage or severe corrosion, check the fastening of the system parts.
