Put the car on a lift and remove the hood.
Disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal.
Remove the air filter and close the carburetor from above with a technological cover.
Set the heater control knob to position «warm» («heating»).
Remove the plug from the expansion tank. Disconnect the inlet hose from the radiator, unscrew the plug located under the exhaust manifold from the cylinder block, and drain the coolant into a container placed under the engine.
Disconnect the throttle cable from the bracket and from the throttle control lever.
Disconnect the fuel drain hose (of blue color) from the carburetor and the fuel supply hose from the fuel pump and close their holes with plugs
Disconnect the wires from the solenoid shutoff valve, coolant temperature sensor, carburetor auto starter temperature sensor, oil pressure sensor.
Disconnect the low voltage wires and the high voltage wire going to the ignition coil from the ignition distributor.
Remove the distributor cap, distributor rotor and dust shield.
Unscrew the ignition distributor capacitor and the interior heater control rod.
Disconnect the wires from the ignition coil.
Disconnect the wires from the generator and release the wiring harness.
On an engine with a Solex 1B1 carburetor, disconnect the choke cable from the carburetor.
Disconnect the vacuum hose from the retarded ignition angle connector of the vacuum regulator of the ignition distributor.
Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose from the pickup pipe.
Disconnect all electrical wires from the starter and shine the clamping yoke.
Disconnect the reverse light switch harness connector. located near the battery bracket.
Remove the mounting clamp and disconnect the connector on the generator.
Disconnect the clutch cable.
Note. Secure the clutch cable so that it cannot disengage from the clutch pedal.
Loosen the nuts on the studs securing the exhaust pipe of the mufflers to the exhaust manifold flange.
Remove the cap from the radiator.
Disconnect the connector for the blower motor ON sensor and the cooling fan motor.
Remove radiator.
Disconnect the heater hoses from the engine.
Remove the upper bolts securing the gearbox to the engine.
Disconnect the right support from the engine mount bracket, then disconnect the front support.
Detach the front muffler pipe from the exhaust manifold and from the transmission mounting bracket.
Remove the protective cover of the clutch housing.
Loosen lower gearbox-to-engine bolts.
Sling the engine, taking into account the center of gravity when lifting the engine.
Hang the engine with a hoist until the hooks and cables take the weight so that you can remove the metal and rubber suspension parts of the power unit.
Place a support under the gearbox.
Separate the engine from the gearbox.
Unroll the engine and remove it from the engine compartment.
Installation
Engine installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
- finally tighten the engine mounting bolts to the suspension brackets when the engine is idling;
- fill the cooling system with liquid;
- adjust the throttle cable;
- fix the exhaust pipe of the mufflers so as to exclude excessive vibration;
- adjust the clutch cable;
- after installation, check with the engine running for leaks of fuel, coolant and oil.
