Set the gear shift lever to neutral position.
FZ and EP engines
Press the accelerator pedal all the way down and release it slowly (in cold weather press the pedal twice).
Pull the carburetor air damper cover handle all the way out. At the same time, the indicator lamp in the instrument cluster lights up yellow.
Turn on the starter without pressing the accelerator pedal.
A few seconds after starting the engine, press the air damper handle to the first fixed position.
Start moving.
As the engine speed increases, if the car moves smoothly, gradually fully press the air damper cover handle. In this case, the control lamp in the instrument cluster goes out. As soon as the engine starts to run steadily in one of the fixed positions of the handle, immediately set it to the next position. Try to move as little as possible with the air damper closed.
Engines YP, DT, DS
Activate the carburetor's automatic starting device by pressing the accelerator pedal all the way down and slowly releasing it (at low ambient temperatures, press the pedal twice).
Turn on the starter without pressing the accelerator pedal.
After warming up the engine, reduce idle speed by briefly pressing the accelerator pedal several times.
YZ and DZ engines
Press the accelerator pedal lightly and, holding the pedal in this position, turn on the starter.
If the engine does not start within 10 seconds, turn off the ignition and try to start the engine again after approximately 30 seconds.

Key positions in the ignition switch:
- "0" — off. Parking lights may be on. To turn on the anti-theft device, remove the ignition key, turn the steering wheel in any direction until a click occurs. Do not remove the key from the ignition switch while the vehicle is moving;
- "1" — ignition. The indicator lamps for battery charge, oil pressure, parking brake and brake fluid level light up in the instrument cluster. The key is not removed. It is prohibited to leave the key in position "1" for a long time when the engine is not running to avoid overheating the ignition coil;
- "2" — starter. When starting the engine, turn the key clockwise until it stops and hold it in this position, overcoming the resistance of the return spring. When the force weakens, the key returns to position "1". If the engine does not start on the first attempt, turn off the ignition by returning the key to position "O", then turn on the starter again. If the key is turned to position "2" with the headlights on, they automatically turn off and the parking light comes on. At the same time, the windshield wiper, heater fan and rear window heating element, if they were on, are also automatically turned off.
Note: In cold weather, when turning on the starter, you should press the clutch lever.
