Downshift (Low Range)

When driving on difficult off-road conditions, as well as when driving with a trailer on extremely steep climbs and descents, vehicles with manual transmission can engage a lower gear.

In addition, to improve braking on loose ground, when the downshift is engaged, a switch to a special ABS mode is made, which is specifically suited to off-road conditions.

Low Range mode is designed for speeds up to 50 km/h.

The downshift can be engaged when the vehicle is stationary or at a speed of less than 30 km/h. Disengagement does not depend on the vehicle speed.

When the speed limit for Low Range mode is exceeded (approximately 50 km/h) the LOW RANGE message flashes on the instrument panel display and a warning sound sounds at the same time. In this case, reduce speed immediately or switch off the downshift.

When driving in Low Range mode at a speed of approximately 70 km/h, the cyclic fuel supply is reduced.

Switching on a downshift

1. Reduce speed to 30 km/h or less.

2. Press the clutch pedal all the way down and press the button located on the left side of the gear shift lever.

3. When the downshift is correctly engaged, the instrument cluster display will show LOW RANGE.

4. Release the clutch pedal.

Disabling downshift

5. Press the clutch pedal all the way down and press the button located on the left side of the gear shift lever.

6. When the downshift is correctly disengaged, the LOW RANGE message on the instrument panel display goes out.

Note! Low Range mode can also be deactivated by depressing the clutch pedal while the engine is off. Low Range mode is not deactivated if the engine is started immediately after being turned off.

Warning! An intermittent sound signal indicates that the Low Range mode has been incorrectly deactivated. If the parking brake is not applied, despite the downshift being engaged, the vehicle may move unintentionally. In this case, you must start the engine again, fully depress the clutch pedal and hold it down until the shift is complete. The LOW RANGE message on the instrument cluster display should go out.

If due to a malfunction the downshift does not engage/disengage (the LOW RANGE inscription on the instrument panel display is flashing), then repeat the downshifting/downshifting procedure, observing the following conditions:
  • the speed when engaging a downshift must be less than 30 km/h;
  • fully depress the clutch pedal and hold it down until the downshifting procedure is completed (the LOW RANGE inscription on the instrument cluster display should light up/go out).

If the system malfunctions, the device switches to emergency mode (the inscription LOW RANGE in reverse font on the instrument panel display is constantly lit). In this case, it is recommended to contact a specialized workshop to identify and eliminate the malfunction.
