Table of contents: Dynamic Shift Program (DSP) ↓ Tiptronic ↓
Shifting up and down is carried out according to the driving programs stored in the memory. There is also the possibility of manual gear shifting (Tiptronic).
Dynamic Shift Program (DSP)
Early upshifts and late downshifts ensure optimal fuel consumption. The control unit automatically selects the program.
With a moderate driving style, the automatic transmission selects an economical shift program.
With a sporty driving style with sharp acceleration and frequent speed changes, using maximum speed or after sharply pressing the accelerator pedal, the automatic system operates in the range of sports programs. Late switching to higher gears allows the engine power reserve to be fully utilized. Switching to lower gears is carried out at higher engine speeds compared to the economical program.
Selecting the optimal driving program for specific conditions is a continuous process.
However, regardless of this, you can switch to a more sporty program by pressing the accelerator pedal sharply. In this case, the gearbox switches to a lower gear corresponding to the actual speed of movement, providing the possibility of dynamic acceleration (for example, when overtaking)without the need to suddenly press the accelerator pedal all the way down.
After switching back to a higher gear and in the appropriate driving mode, operation is restored according to the original program.
Tiptronic
The "Tiptronic" system also allows manual gear shifting. To switch to manual mode, press the control lever from position "D" to the right. You can switch to manual mode both while driving and when parked or stopped. When manual mode is engaged, the display shows the gear engaged "5, 4, 3, 2, 1".
When the gearshift lever is moved forward (+), the transmission shifts to higher gears, and when moved back (-), to lower gears. When accelerating in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears, the transmission will automatically shift to the next higher gear shortly before reaching maximum engine speed for that gear.
The transmission control lever is shifted from a higher to a lower gear only if the maximum permissible engine speed for a given gear is not exceeded.
Manual gear shifting can also be done by pressing the corresponding buttons on the steering wheel. To shift to higher gears, press the upper part of one of the buttons (+), to shift to lower gears - the lower part of one of the buttons (-).
