The parking brake is tightened by moving the lever up to the stop. When the car is stopped on a slope, additionally engage 1st gear, and if there is an automatic transmission, the parking lock. The parking brake tightened to the stop will not allow movement without releasing the lever.
When the handbrake is applied and the ignition is on, the handbrake warning lamp lights up.
To release the vehicle from the handbrake, pull the lever up slightly, press the release button, and fully lower the lever down.
