The parking brake is applied by moving the lever up to the stop. When stopping the car on a slope, additionally engage 1st gear, and if there is an automatic transmission, the parking lock. A parking brake applied to the stop will not allow movement without releasing the lever.
When the handbrake is applied and the ignition is on, the handbrake indicator light comes on.
To release the vehicle from the handbrake, pull the lever up slightly, press the release button and lower the lever completely down.
