LFR valve (Leerlauffullungs-regelung) the LFR valve is attached to the intake manifold and regulates the air flow during idle operation, bypassing the throttle valve. This ensures that the crankshaft speed remains constant regardless of whether energy consumers such as the power steering pump or the air conditioning compressor are switched on. The LFR valve is controlled by the electronic control unit of the injection system.

The intake manifold is designed so that the intake air is directed along a long or short path using flaps. At crankshaft speeds below approximately 4000 rpm, the flaps are closed, the intake air moves along a long path, which increases engine torque. At shaft speeds above 4000 rpm, the flaps open, the intake air is directed along a short path, which increases power. The injection system control unit controls the movement of the flaps using a vacuum valve, which activates the membrane mechanism of the flap shaft drive.

The exhaust gas recirculation system consists of mechanical and electrical valves and serves to reduce the amount of NOx in the exhaust gases before the catalytic converter.

The electronic control unit is located in the right footwell under the plastic trim.

Warning: When working on injection systems, it is necessary to pay attention to impeccable cleanliness. Before dismantling, the relevant parts must be cleaned with gasoline. The system is under high pressure. Therefore, before replacing parts, to reduce the pressure in the system, it is necessary to slowly unscrew the fuel line between the fuel pump and the filter. Beforehand, place a rag under the fuel line. The high pressure decreases by itself (without unscrewing the fuel line) a few hours after the engine has been stopped.
