Function switch (arrow) and reset key ("Reset") mounted in the wiper control handle.
If the ignition is on, pressing the lower side of the function switch repeatedly will display them in sequence. By pressing the upper side of the switch, the display of functions is carried out in the reverse order.
By pressing and holding the reset button for at least 2 seconds, you can set to zero the values \u200b\u200bof the absolute and average fuel consumption, driving time and average speed accumulated in the memory. By briefly pressing the button, you can interrupt the signal computer indication that warns of exceeding the norm of continuous driving time and the need for refueling.
When the ignition is switched on, the last function at the time the ignition was switched off is displayed. When the battery terminals are disconnected, all accumulated values are erased.
Display
The on-board computer provides information of 6 types:
- current fuel consumption or boost pressure of the Audi S6 Avant (169 kW);
- fuel reserve;
- absolute fuel consumption;
- driving time (Max. indication 23:59);
- average fuel consumption;
- average movement speed.
Fuel consumption, fuel range and speed are displayed in metric units, and in certain export versions in the English system of units (l/100 km – mpg, km/h – mph, km – mi).
You can tell which feature is enabled by looking at the triangle that points to the corresponding symbol at the top or bottom of the display. The illustration shows the fuel range display as an example.
l/100km - current fuel consumption
The display shows the fuel consumption values at the moment, measured in l/100 km.
Consumption is calculated for each 30-meter section of the track. When the vehicle is stopped, the last calculated value is displayed. If, after starting the engine, the current fuel consumption indication is called up, then the average fuel consumption is displayed for the first 30–40 meters of the journey. If the accelerator pedal is operated while the engine is running, the fuel consumption reading may be very high. With this display, you can select the driving mode that corresponds to the optimal fuel consumption.
bar - boost pressure
The display shows the absolute pressure in the engine intake manifold. The indication range on the display is from 0 to 2.5 bar.
After turning on the ignition with the engine off, the indication corresponds to the actual atmospheric (barometric) pressure, which means at sea level about 1.0 bar. After starting the engine, the readings decrease due to a vacuum in the intake manifold. When driving, the indication changes between 1 and 2 bar, depending on and, among other things, the position of the accelerator pedal. If, under the influence of a turbocharger, the pressure in the intake gas pipeline increases so much that it exceeds atmospheric pressure, then in this case they say "boost pressure".
At full load, boost pressure depends on engine speed, charge air temperature, atmospheric pressure (heights) and fuel quality. The engine electronics continuously adjusts the boost pressure to the best possible match with the engine's operating conditions. Therefore, when driving, significant fluctuations in the readings of the boost pressure are possible.
If the maximum allowable boost pressure at wide open throttle is exceeded (due to system malfunctions), the Motronic control unit will switch off the valve injectors for safety and thereby cut off the fuel supply until the boost pressure drops to the norm.
In this case, avoiding exceeding the admissible boost pressure by careful depressing the accelerator pedal, you can go to the Audi factory in order to determine the cause of the abnormal increase in pressure.
- fuel range
The fuel range is determined by discrete values measured in steps of 10 km. This display shows how many kilometers the car can still travel on the actual remaining fuel in this driving mode. The fuel consumption for the last 30 km is taken as the basis for calculating the range. With a more economical subsequent movement, the range increases.
Refueling reminder
With a power reserve of less than 50 km, it automatically switches to the indication of this particular parameter. The display starts flashing. When the remaining fuel in the tank reaches 5–8 liters, the letter appears on the display instead of the range value "L", meaning that the tank is empty.
The alarm indication can be turned off by briefly pressing the top or bottom side of the function switch, or the button "Reset". Until the vehicle is filled with fuel, the warning light will appear each time the ignition is turned on.
- absolute fuel consumption
The display shows the amount of fuel consumed after starting the engine. The consumption value is erased from the memory after the ignition is switched on again and the next 30 m of movement. In addition, this value can be cleared by pressing the button "Reset".
- travel time
The display shows the travel time since the last memory reset. When the ignition is on, the value of the travel time is stored in memory. When the movement continues, the subsequent countdown is added to it.
The travel time limit is 23 hours and 59 minutes.
If you want to start counting the travel time from a certain moment, clear the memory by pressing the button "Reset".
Reminder to take a break from driving
Two hours after the start of the movement, regardless of the programmed function, there is an automatic switch to the indication of the travel time. Flashing view indication "2:0" reminds the driver to take a break from driving. By briefly pressing the top or bottom side of the function switch, or the button "Reset" this indication can be turned off. If the ignition is left on or if the break is less than 10 minutes, then every next two hours the reminder to stop for a rest will be repeated, with an indication of the travel time of the form "4:0", "6:0" etc.
If the break lasts more than 10 minutes with the ignition off, the travel time data is reset.
- average fuel consumption
The display shows the average fuel consumption since the last memory reset. Do not confuse it with the instantaneous consumption at the time of reading.
When the ignition is off, the value of the average fuel consumption is stored in memory. When driving continues, the subsequent consumption data is taken into account.
To erase the memory, press the key "Reset". When driving the first 30 m after the reset, a zero value is displayed on the display.
- average movement speed
The display shows the average speed since the last memory reset. When the ignition is off, this value is stored in memory. When continuing the movement, the indicators of the subsequent run are taken into account.
To clear the memory data, press the key "Reset".
