Seats — removal and installation (Audi A4 B5)

Note: This paragraph does not apply to models with side airbags.

Front seat

Removal

1. Move the seat all the way back and fold the backrest all the way forward.

2. Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.

3. At the rear of the seat, remove the plug and unscrew the bolt securing the outer channel.

4. Loosen the mounting bolt and remove the rear inner seat mounting bracket.

5. Loosen the nut and remove the bolt from the front of the seat from the mounting bracket.

6. Remove the locking pin and slide the seat back to remove it from the supports.

7. Disconnect the wiring connectors under the seat (if provided) and remove the seat from the car.

Installation

8. Installation - reverse procedure.

Rear seat cushion

Removal

9. Pull the front edge of the cushion up to release the retaining pins from their sockets (fig. 31.9, a, b).

10. Slide the cushion forward and remove it from the vehicle.

Installation

Fixed rear seat backrest

Removal

12. Remove the seat cushion as described above.

13. Press the locking buttons and remove the rear seat headrests (fig. 31.13).

14. Carefully remove the guide tubes from the backrest (fig. 31.14).

15. Unscrew the fastening screws at the bottom of the backrest (fig. 31.15).

16. Lift the backrest up to release the upper fasteners and remove the backrest from the vehicle (fig. 31.16).

Installation

17. Installation - reverse procedure (fig. 31.17).

Split rear seat backrest

Removal

18. Remove the rear seat cushion as described above.

19. If provided, remove the lower seat belt anchors from the body.

20. In the central (between two halves) loop the mounting bolt and remove the retainer. Remove the hinge pin and move the seat to the side to release the pin on the other side from the socket (fig. 31.20, a-g).
