Gasoline consumption
Audi's high-tech engines also get a little help from electronics «curb thirst» engine. At cruising speed, the Audi can get by on 8.5 liters per 100 km. On the other hand, it will not be a problem to increase fuel consumption to more than 12 liters per 100 km.
Injection
The six-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2.8 liters is equipped with an MPI injection system. The abbreviation MPI hides the abbreviation of the English name Multi Point Injection - multi-point injection. (The hallmark of the MPI injection system is the fresh air flow meter in the air intake hose at the rear right in the engine compartment.)
Almost identical to it, the MPFI fuel injection system of the 2.6 liter engine is named by this abbreviation only for distinction, which stands for Multi Point Fuel Injection - multi-point fuel injection. (Identification sign: no fresh air flow meter.)
A distinctive feature of these two systems is the way to measure the amount (or mass) intake air:
- MPI does this with a hot-wire air mass meter.
- The MPFI uses an intake manifold air pressure sensor for this purpose (built into the control unit and connected by a hose to the intake manifold), as well as the intake air temperature sensor (in the intake manifold).
