Measurement of compression pressure with an inexpensive measuring device for hobbyists.
To prevent fuel from splashing into the cylinders when measuring compression pressure, all injection valves (arrows) connectors are removed.
Order of execution
1. Turn off the ignition and stop the fuel supply. In different models, this is done in different ways:
2. 1.6L 4-cylinder engine: Disconnect the ignition coil power output connector.
3. Disconnect the connectors of all four injection valves.
4. Four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1.8 liters: the ignition coils are dismantled in any case (chapter Ignition system), this also disconnects the connectors on the ignition coils or the final output. Disconnect the connectors of all four injection valves.
5. Six-cylinder engine: Disconnect both connectors at the final power output of the ignition coils (chapter Ignition system). Disconnect the connectors of all six injection valves.
6. For all models: Remove all spark plugs.
7. Press the rubber cone of the pressure gauge to the opening of the spark plug of the first cylinder (the sequence doesn't matter, but write down) or screw the connecting tube into the thread of the spark plug.
8. Engage the handbrake, put the gearshift lever in the neutral position or the automatic transmission selector lever in the position «R».
9. Have your helper turn the engine over with the starter. The gas pedal must be fully depressed (in order to better fill the cylinder).
10. When the pressure indicator no longer rises significantly, write it down and take measurements on the next cylinder.
