Table of contents: Execution order ↓ Pressure indicators ↓
To measure, you need to warm up the engine. The tightness of the piston rings increases when the oil is hot. In addition, you need to stop the supply of fuel to the cylinders. Otherwise, when measuring the pressure, the engine will be flooded with fuel, which can damage the catalytic converter. And finally, you need to turn off the ignition, without the spark plugs connected, the ignition coil can be damaged when starting the engine.

To prevent fuel from being sprayed into the cylinders when measuring compression pressure, the connectors on all injection valves (arrows) are removed.

Execution order

1. Turn off the ignition and stop the fuel supply. This is done differently in different models:

2. 1.6L 4-cylinder engine: Disconnect the ignition coil power output connector.

3. Disconnect the connectors of all four injection valves.

4. Four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1.8 l: the ignition coils are removed in any case (chapter Ignition system), while also disconnecting the connectors on the ignition coils or the final output. Disconnect the connectors of all four injection valves.

5. Six-cylinder engine: Disconnect both connectors at the final power output of the ignition coils (Chapter Ignition system). Disconnect the connectors of all six injection valves.

6. For all models: Remove all spark plugs.

7. Press the rubber cone of the pressure gauge to the spark plug hole of the first cylinder (the order doesn't matter, but write it down) or screw the connecting tube into the spark plug thread.

8. Apply the handbrake, move the gearshift lever to neutral or the automatic transmission selector lever to position "P".

9. Have your assistant turn the engine over with the starter. The gas pedal should be fully depressed (in order to better fill the cylinder).

10. When the pressure reading no longer rises significantly, write it down and take measurements on the next cylinder.
