Measuring the thickness of the front disc brake pads (Audi A4 B5)

The large brake pads of the front disc brakes often last for more than 50,000 km. Checking the thickness of the pads is of great importance for safety – the brakes are easily "forgotten" given the high mileage of the pads – because the Audi A4 no longer has a brake pad wear warning light, as was the case in previous models:



Measuring the brake lining on the front wheel brakes:

• 1 - lining material;
• 2 - metal supporting plate.

Execution order

1. The minimum thickness of the overlay is 7 mm, including the carrier plate. The carrier plate itself – the metal part to which the overlay is glued – is about 5 mm thick, while the material of the overlay itself must have a minimum thickness of 2 mm.

2. During a quick check with the wheel cap removed, shine a lamp into the rim hole and assess the thickness of the lining.

3. More precise control with the wheel removed.

4. Place a ruler on the pad and measure, don't forget the brake pad on the inside!
