The jack is only for lifting the vehicle. But it does not ensure the safety of working under the car. Immediately after lifting the car with a jack, it is necessary to install reliable stands under the car raised in this way.
Rocks or blocks of wood can be used as wheel chocks to prevent the vehicle from rolling when jacked up.
hollow bricks (blocks) are available and inexpensive. But they must not be cracked or wet, otherwise they may fall apart. A piece of board should be laid between the support and the body to evenly distribute the load over the surface of the entire support. Bricks must be installed with holes up and on a solid foundation (concrete, asphalt).
The jack stands are the perfect complement to the jack. It is best to install the racks so that one leg goes out, and the other two are directed inward, towards the middle of the car. The rack should not have too small a supporting surface.
lifting ramp (overpass) - the most convenient lifting device, since a jack is not required here and safety is guaranteed for the car and during work.
When using the jack included in the tool kit, always place a piece of board on top to prevent the base of the jack from being pressed into the ground.
To lift a car whose body has rusted, a parallelogram-type jack is most suitable. It can be installed a little further inward towards the center of the body.
The hydraulic plunger jack does not always ensure the separation of the vehicle wheels. Therefore, when purchasing such a jack, check the height of its stroke. However, a jack that is too high cannot be placed under the vehicle.
The garage jack is the most convenient for the car enthusiast (see illustration 9.0).
When jacking up the vehicle, it must be remembered that the jack can be installed in places with appropriate body reinforcement. Such points are marked with corresponding labels (see illustration 9.0a). To avoid damage to the body, it is recommended to lay a piece of board on the supporting surface of the jack (see illustration 9.0).
