Removal
Molding on the front part of the wing
1. Remove the wheel arch.
2. Loosen the hex nut on the inside of the wing.
3. Push the molding back and remove it.
Molding on the rear of the wing
4. Heat the molding with a hair dryer to about 40°C, then separate it from the wing with a screwdriver. Wrap the screwdriver in a rag to avoid damaging the varnish coating.
When installing this overlay, secure it to the retainer and additionally glue it.
Molding on doors
5. Press off the door trims. These trims are damaged when removed, even if heated to about 40°C. For this reason, purchase new trims.
6. Wipe the freshly painted surface where you will be gluing the molding with gasoline and silicone remover.
7. Cut off the remains of the old glue to a residual thickness of no more than 1 mm on the metal surface of the door. The remaining thin layer of the old glue will improve the adhesion to the new glue.
8. Be careful not to damage the painted surface.
9. Clean the areas where the old moldings were glued.
10. Clean the plastic parts where the adhesive was applied using solution D 00940001 and wipe dry.
11. Apply a layer of primer to freshly painted metal parts and to plastic parts where the adhesive will be applied. For metal parts, use primer D 00920002, and for plastic parts, use primer D 009600.
12. Apply PUR AK.D 476 KD505 adhesive sealant to the back of the molding. It is enough to apply a 4 mm diameter layer of glue in the middle of the molding.
13. Fix the molding to the door. To ensure good adhesion, fix the molding with adhesive tape. The drying time of the adhesive mass at 20°C is 4 hours.
Attention! To avoid the painstaking procedure of gluing the door trim, car enthusiasts use the following technique. For gluing, take a transparent silicone sealant, which is applied in large quantities to the back of the molding. Then the molding is pressed to the installation site, having cleaned it in advance. Excess mass is immediately removed. To prevent the molding from falling off, it is left for the entire period of mass hardening (about a day) secured with tape. As a result, the molding sticks a little worse than with the original technology, but it holds well and does not fall off when washing the car in an automatic car wash.
Bottom trim strip
A thin trim strip is installed on the lower edges of the doors, as well as on adjacent metal parts of some car models.
The overlay on the front and rear wings is glued. The procedure for removing and installing such an overlay is similar to removing and installing moldings.
14. Remove the caps on the ends of the trims and, without closing the door, pull the trim out of the mounting clamps.
