Removal
Vehicles with drum brakes: Remove the rear wheel and brake drum.
Cars with disc brakes: remove the brake disc and wheel hub.
Remove the hub bearing and clean it with gasoline.
Knock out the outer rings with a copper punch. Apply the punch in a circle to different places on the ring to avoid distortion.
Caution: Use only a perfect drift to avoid creating ridges in the seat.
Clean the axle journal and brake drum or wheel hub with a clean cloth and alcohol
Installation
Press in the bearing rings "C" until they stop. For this purpose, the service station uses the VW-432 device for cars with drum brakes and the VW-512 and 30-506 for cars with disc brakes. If these devices are not available, carefully drive in the bearing ring using a pipe of the appropriate diameter.
Fill the radial thrust bearing with bearing grease (casting grease).
Insert the inner bearing.
Fill the space between the sealing grooves of the oil seal with grease.
Cars with drum brakes
Install the seal using a tube of the appropriate diameter.
Install the brake drum and insert the outer bearing at the same time.
Cars with disc brakes
Install the seal using a tube of the appropriate diameter.
Fill the hub with bearing grease and insert it together with the outer bearing.
Adjust the bearing clearance.
Install the rear wheel and tighten the wheel bolts crosswise to 110 Nm.
