Withdrawal
Vehicles with drum brakes: remove rear wheel and brake drum.
Vehicles with disc brakes: remove the brake disc and wheel hub.
Remove wheel bearing and clean with gasoline.
Knock out the outer rings with a copper drift. In this case, apply the punch in a circle to various places of the ring in order to avoid its distortion.
Attention: Use only a perfect drift to avoid forming beads on the seat.
Clean the axle pin and brake drum or wheel hub with a clean rag and alcohol
Installation
Press in bearing races -C- up to stop. To do this, the service station uses the VW-432 tool for vehicles with drum brakes and VW-512 and 30-506 for vehicles with disc brakes. If these tools are not available, carefully drive the bearing race in using a tube of the correct diameter.
Fill the angular contact bearing with bearing grease (cast grease).
Insert inner bearing.
Fill with grease the space between the sealing clicks of the stuffing box.
Cars with drum brakes
Install the seal using a tube of the appropriate diameter.
Fit the brake drum, inserting the outer bearing as well.
Vehicles with disc brakes
Install the seal using a tube of the appropriate diameter.
Fill hub with bearing grease and insert together with outer bearing.
Adjust bearing play.
Install the rear wheel and tighten the wheel bolts crosswise to 110 Nm.
