Raise the rear of the car.
Remove rear wheel.
Knock off the cap with a rubber mallet or pry it off with a screwdriver.
Pull out the cotter pin and remove the crown retainer.
Slightly loosen the hex nut and tighten again. The play is set correctly if the thrust washer can still be moved by pressing a finger on the screwdriver -arrow-. In this case, do not turn the screwdriver in any case.
Caution: Turn the wheel while tightening the nut to prevent the bearings from seizing.
Insert the crown lock so that the cotter pin can be inserted.
Insert a new cotter pin, bend the cotter pin after installation.
Install the hub cap using a tube of the appropriate diameter, the tube must be in contact with the protrusion of the cap.
Attention: Moisture can penetrate through a loose cover and destroy the bearing. Therefore, even a slightly deformed cap must be replaced.
Install the rear wheel, lower the vehicle, tighten the wheel bolts crosswise to 110 Nm.
