Execution order
1. Roll down the left side window. Stand next to the car.
2. Put your hand through the window and turn the steering wheel slightly left and right.
3. Does the left front wheel turn at the same time from a straight-ahead position? Pay attention to the rim, as a flexible tire can "absorb" some of the turn before it starts moving.
Causes of steering play
Backlash in the steering gear can be caused by:
- the steering rack. The resulting play can be eliminated by adjusting;
- knocked out joints of the transverse steering rods on the outer side or on the inner side of the steering gear;
- defective hinges of the connecting element of the sectioned safety steering column;
- loose screw connection between the steering column and steering gear.
