Note: Do not separate the control unit and the hydraulic modulator.
1. The installation details of the hydraulic and electronic control unit assembly are shown in the illustration.
8.1. Details of installation of the control unit and hydraulic modulator:
1 - Control unit "J104";
2 - Hydromodulator "N55";
3/4 - Brake line from the primary/secondary piston circuit of the master cylinder to the hydraulic modulator (port "DK"/"SK");
5 - Brake line from the hydraulic modulator (port "HL") to the rear left caliper;
6/7 - Brake line from the hydraulic modulator (port "VR"/"VL") to the front right/left caliper;
8 - Brake line from the hydraulic modulator (port "HR") to the rear right caliper;
9 - Intermediate connection;
10, 21 - Bracket;
11 - Flange bolt, 5 Nm;
12 - Bolt, 8 Nm;
13 - Buffer;
14 - Amplifier gasket 15;
15 - Brake booster;
16 - Aperture sensor, do not remove;
17, 23 - Seal;
18 - Vacuum hose;
19 - Sealing ring, must be replaced;
20 - Self-locking nut, replaceable, 49 Nm;
22 - GTZ;
24 - Brake fluid reservoir;
25 - Tank cover 24.
This assembly is installed on the right side of the engine compartment, in the air intake chamber.
2. Remove the battery (see Chapter 5).
3. Remove the air intake chamber cover (see Section 19 of Chapter 1).
4. Remove the ECM (see Chapter 5).
5. Remove the air intake of the climate control system (see Chapter 3).
6. Remove the clamp (1 in the illustration) and disconnect the connector (2).
8.6. Disconnecting the ESP unit connector.
7. Connect the hose to the front left brake bleeder nipple and open the nipple, collecting the leaking fluid. Have an assistant depress the brake pedal and tighten the bleed screw.
8. Disconnect the brake lines from the hydraulic modulator and plug the lines and ports of the hydraulic modulator to prevent dirt from getting into them.
9. Remove the bolts (see illustration) and remove the control unit and hydraulic modulator assembly.
8.9. Bolts for fastening the control unit and hydraulic modulator assembly.
10. Installation of the hydraulic modulator and control unit assembly is carried out in the reverse order of their removal. Do not mix up the brake pipe connections. After installation, bleed the brake hydraulic system (see Chapter 1) and code the new ESP control unit.
