Removal the side airbag unit

Removing the security system control unit

Removal
1. Read and follow the airbag safety instructions.
2. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
Warning: Follow the instructions in Section Replacing the battery.
3. Insulate the battery terminals.
4. Unlock the steering column adjustment mechanism.
5. Extend the steering wheel (2) as far as possible and pull it up. Set it vertically, refer to the illustration Driver's airbag.
6. Remove one of the two Torx T30 screws (1).
7. Turn the steering wheel back half a turn and remove the second Torx screw (1).
8. Disconnect the airbag unit connector (4).
9. Disconnect the horn connector (6).
10 Place the airbag unit (5) with the impact side of the airbag facing upwards.
Installation
1. Connect connectors (4) and (6) and secure them with locking clips (a distinct click should be heard).
2. Make sure that no cable is in contact with the gas generator and that the cable is not pinched.
3. Fold the airbag cable on the left into a loop.
4. Loop the horn cable.
5. Tighten the screws (1) to torque 7 Nm, refer to the illustration Driver's airbag.
6. Turn on the ignition.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
Caution: There should be no one inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
