2. It is possible that after a while the performance of the engine will deteriorate due to insufficient regular maintenance. This can most likely happen when purchasing a machine that has not been serviced regularly. In this case, it is necessary to perform additional procedures beyond the schedule.
3. If you suspect that the engine is worn, perform a compression test (see relevant part of chapter 2). which will provide reliable information about the state of its main components. Such a check will help to draw a conclusion about the main amount of work required. If the compression test reveals significant wear, the routine maintenance described in this chapter will not improve engine performance and may be a waste of time and money until the engine is overhauled.
4. To improve the performance of the engine in case of insufficiently efficient operation, the following sequence of operations is recommended:
Primary cycle
- A) Clean, inspect and test the battery ("Weekly checks").
- b) Check for all engine related leaks ("Weekly checks").
- V) Check the condition and tension of the accessory drive belt (paragraph 5).
- G) Check the condition of the air filter, replace if necessary (paragraph 26).
- d) Replace fuel filter (paragraph 21).
- e) Check the condition of all hoses for leaks (paragraph 13).
5. If all of the above operations are not effective, perform the following additional operations:
Secondary cycle
In addition to the items in the primary cycle, perform the following procedures:
- A) Check the battery charging system (chapter 5A).
- b) Check the condition of the glow plug heating system (chapter 5B).
- V) Check the power system (chapter 4b).
