Table of contents: Primary cycle ↓ Secondary cycle ↓
1. If after purchasing the car you strictly follow the maintenance schedule and monitor the level of working fluids, as well as the condition of quickly wearing parts, as recommended in this manual, then the engine will retain its characteristics for a long time, and the need for additional parts will be minimal.
2. It is possible that after some time the engine performance will deteriorate due to insufficiently regular maintenance. Most likely, this can happen when purchasing a car that has not been serviced regularly. In this case, additional procedures must be performed beyond the schedule.
3. If you suspect that the engine is worn out, perform a compression test (see the relevant part of Chapter 2). which will provide reliable information about the condition of its main components. Such a check will help to draw a conclusion about the main volume of necessary work. If the result of the compression test reveals significant wear, then the normal maintenance described in this chapter will not lead to an improvement in engine performance and may be a waste of time and money until a major engine overhaul is carried out.
4. To improve the engine performance when it is not operating efficiently, the following sequence of operations is recommended:
Primary cycle
- a) Clean, inspect and test the battery ("Weekly checks").
- b) Check all engine related leaks ("Weekly checks").
- c) Check the condition and tension of the auxiliary drive belt (paragraph 5).
- d) Check the condition of the air filter, replace if necessary (paragraph 26).
- d) Replace the fuel filter (paragraph 21).
- e) Check the condition of all hoses and the absence of leaks (paragraph 13).
5. If all the above operations were not effective, perform the following additional operations:
Secondary cycle
In addition to the points of the primary cycle, perform the following procedures:
- a) Check the battery charging system (chapter 5A).
- b) Check the condition of the glow plug heating system (chapter 5B).
- c) Check the power supply system (chapter 4B).
