Removal
1. Open the hood, the hood lock is located under the front upper cross member of the body in the front part of the engine compartment (Fig. 8.1). Unscrew the four mounting screws and remove the lock mechanism from the cross member.

2. Disconnect the thin-nose end of the cable from the lever behind the lock mechanism. Remove the cable from the lock mechanism.
3. Release the lock cable from the fasteners in the engine compartment.
4. In the passenger compartment, under the front panel on the driver's side, unfasten the front panel trim, unscrew the screws and remove the storage box under the steering column.
5. Loosen the screws and remove the trim at the base of the right A-pillar.
6. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the handle mechanism from the body bracket (Fig. 8.6).

7. Tie a strong, thin rope to the end of the cable on the lock side (to facilitate reinstallation) and pull the cable into the passenger compartment.
8. Untie the rope and leave it as a cable.
Installation
9. Installation is the reverse procedure. Tie the rope to the end of the cable, pull the cable to the lock and untie the rope.
10. When securing the cable in the engine compartment, make sure that it is not bent at sharp angles or pinched by anything. Before closing the hood, check that the cable and lock are working properly. Check that the safety catch prevents the hood from opening completely when the lock cable is pulled with the handle.
