Depending on the engine and equipment with headlight washer system, the Audi A4 is equipped with different reservoirs for windshield washer fluid (1). But anyway the water pump (2) attaches directly to the tank.
If the vehicle is equipped with the appropriate equipment, the windshield washer system sends two jets of water to the headlight lenses if the system is activated with the dipped beam and high beam switched on. The washing process is controlled by a separate relay (chapter Electrical equipment). A separate water pump is located - like the windshield washer pump - in the washer fluid reservoir.
If the cleaning system telescope (with nozzles and pressure valve) does not slide out, it can be replaced separately.
Dismantling the cleaning system telescope
1. Pull out the telescope by hand.
2. Remove the protective cap by hand or with a small screwdriver.
3. Remove the front bumper (chapter Body parts).
4. Disconnect the supply hose (hose clamp, pliers) and dismantle.
5. Loosen the bolts.
6. Remove the telescope.
Headlight cleaning telescope (1) screwed with two screw connections (2 and 3) to the back of the bumper. In this photo, the bumper has been removed. Numeric «4» a thick inlet hose with a branch is shown.
Electric water pump (2) the headlight cleaning system is mounted at the bottom on a large reservoir of windshield washer fluid (1).
