
Depending on the engine and the headlight washer system, the Audi A4 is equipped with different windshield washer fluid tanks (1). But in any case, the water pump (2) is mounted directly on the tank.
If the vehicle is equipped accordingly, the windscreen washer system directs two jets of water to the headlight lenses if the system is activated with the low and high beams on. The washing process is controlled by a separate relay (chapter Electrical equipment). A separate water pump is located – like the windshield washer pump – in the tank with the washing liquid.
If the telescope of the purification system (with nozzles and discharge valve) if it does not extend, it can be replaced separately.
Dismantling the cleaning system telescope
1. Extend the telescope by hand.
2. Remove the protective cap by hand or with a small screwdriver.
3. Remove the front bumper (chapter Body parts).
4. Disconnect the supply hose (hose clamp, pliers) and dismantle.
5. Loosen the bolts.
6. Remove the telescope.

The headlight cleaning system telescope (1) is screwed with two screw connections (2 and 3) to the back of the bumper. In this photo the bumper is removed. The number "4" shows the thick supply hose with a branch.

The electric water pump (2) for the headlight cleaning system is mounted at the bottom of the large windshield washer fluid reservoir (1).
