Removal
The accelerator cable is very sensitive to bending. If it is carelessly placed at the wrong angle when removed, only this can lead to a defect. A kind of signal warning of a defect in the accelerator cable is a difficult movement of the accelerator pedal. In this case, there is no doubt that the cable will break soon. Install a new cable, observing special care.
1. Disconnect the gas cable leash from the coupling on the fuel injection pump control lever using a screwdriver.
2. Remove the accelerator cable housing lock washer from the counter support.
3. Pull the cable housing out of the rubber sleeve after removing the lock washer.
4. Remove the rubber sleeve from the counter support cam.
5. Disconnect the lower instrument panel trim in the driver's side footwell.
6. Disconnect the gas cable from the lever on the accelerator pedal
7. Squeeze the leashes securing the accelerator cable hole bushing in the bulkhead between the engine compartment and the passenger compartment and pull the cable into the passenger compartment.
8. Install a new "throttle" cable (see illustration).

Adjustment
9. Ask an assistant to press the accelerator pedal all the way down.
10. Move the fuel injection pump control lever all the way to the stop.
11. Pull the cable sheath tight and secure it with a lock washer, placing it in the appropriate position on the counter support.
When the accelerator pedal is fully depressed, the fuel injection pump control lever should reach the stop without strain.
