Adjustable exterior mirrors
Adjustment of outside rear-view mirrors is carried out by means of switches on an armrest of a door from the driver's side. In addition, when the rear window heater is turned on, the rear-view mirror windows are also heated.
If the outside mirror does not move when the switch is turned on, do the following.
1. Check the fuse.
2. Remove the switch if the fuse is OK and check it (see relevant chapter)
3. Remove the glass of the mirror to provide access to the contacts of the drive motor, if the switch is in order.
4. Check that the motor contacts are receiving power by turning on the ignition and the mirror adjustment switch. Check if the connection is normal «weight» (-). If connection with «weight» (-) OK, the motor is defective and must be replaced. The electric motor is supplied only complete with a mirror. Before replacing the motor and mirror, it can be adjusted manually.
If the mirror heating is defective, check the circuit from the heater switch according to the appropriate electrical diagram.
Power windows
Functioning of power windows in AUDI 80 cars is not only from switches, but also from the power window relay located on the central switching panel. With the engine running, the window on the driver's door can be raised or lowered by briefly touching the switch. You can stop raising or lowering the glass by briefly touching the switch again.
When the engine is off, the driver's door glass will only go up and down if the switch is held in the appropriate position. The power windows on the remaining doors work in the same way, except when the windows of the rear doors are blocked by the central (main) switch on the armrest of the driver's door.
If the door is opened and closed while the engine is not running, the power windows are disabled to comply with anti-theft regulations.
Dismantling the power window motors is carried out in the same way as the removal of mechanical windows (see relevant chapter). The power window motor cannot be repaired.
5. Check the fuse under the central wiring panel if the power windows do not turn on when the switch is pressed.
The fuse for the power windows is automatic and therefore after a while it should turn on and complete the circuit.
6. Remove the corresponding switch if one of electrowindow regulators does not work, and check up it. If the switch is OK, then remove the upholstery of the corresponding door.
7. Disconnect the power plug of the power window motor and use a tester with a control light to check the power supply to the motor. If power is supplied, the motor is faulty. Otherwise, you need to look for a break in the supply wire. If it is difficult to move one of the windows, then the reason for this may be that a foreign object has entered the glass guide.
8. Raise the glass with another switch. If this fails, then remove the power window switch from the other door, or simply connect the wires from the faulty switch to the contacts of the good one on the other door. This switch can be used to close the glass.
9. If the reason for the failure of the power window was a break in the motor wire, then lay auxiliary wires from the battery to the motor and raise the glass.
