Adjustable outside rear view mirrors

The adjustment of the outside rear-view mirrors is performed using the switches on the armrest of the driver's side door. In addition, when the rear window heater is turned on, the rear-view mirrors are also heated.

If the outside mirror does not move when you turn on the switch, do the following.

1. Check the fuse.

2. Remove the switch if the fuse is normal and check it (see the relevant chapter)

3. Remove the mirror glass to gain access to the drive motor contacts if the switch is OK.

4. Check if the motor contacts are receiving power by turning on the ignition and the mirror adjustment switch. Check if the ground (-) connection is normal. If the ground (-) connection is normal, the motor is faulty and must be replaced. The motor is supplied only with the mirror. Before replacing the motor and mirror, it can be adjusted manually.

If the mirror heating is defective, check the circuit from the heater switch according to the corresponding electrical diagram.

Electric windows

The operation of the window lifters in AUDI 80 cars is controlled not only by switches, but also by the electric window lifter relay, located on the central switchboard. When the engine is running, the driver's door window can be raised or lowered by briefly touching the switch. You can stop raising or lowering the window by briefly touching the switch again.

If the engine is off, the driver's door window will only go up and down if the switch is held in the appropriate position. The windows on the other doors work in the same way, except when the rear door windows are blocked by the central (main) switch on the driver's door armrest.

If the door is opened and closed with the engine not running, the windows are disabled, which complies with the requirements for preventing theft of the vehicle.

Removing the electric window lift motors is done in the same way as removing the mechanical window lifts (see the relevant chapter). Repair of the electric window motor is not possible.

5. Check the fuse under the central switch panel if the power windows do not turn on when the switch is pressed.

The electric window fuse is automatic and therefore after a while it should turn on and close the circuit.

6. Remove the corresponding switch if one of the electric windows does not work and check it. If the switch is normal, then remove the trim of the corresponding door.

7. Disconnect the window lift motor power plug and use a tester with a test light to check the power supply to the motor. If power is supplied, the motor is faulty. Otherwise, you need to look for a break in the power wire. If one of the windows is difficult to move, the reason may be that a foreign object has gotten into the glass guide.

8. Raise the window using another switch. If this does not work, remove the window lift switch from another door or simply connect the wires from the faulty switch to the contacts of the working one on the other door. The window can be closed using this switch.

9. If the reason for the failure of the electric window lifter was a break in the electric motor wire, then run auxiliary wires from the battery to the electric motor and raise the window.
