Ball joint — replacement (Audi 80 B4)

1. Obtain new self-locking nuts and a new ball joint clamp bolt.

2. Place the front of the car on jack stands, ensuring that it is in a level position. Otherwise, the anti-roll bar will become tense.

3. Check the clamp bolt of the ball joint to which the lower wishbones are attached.

4. Disconnect the ball joint from the steering knuckle using a pry bar. This will disconnect the lower wishbones from the shock absorber strut (see illustration 3.10).

5. Mark the mounting position of the ball joint on the lower wishbone.

6. Loosen the nuts securing the ball joint on the lower wishbone (see illustration 3.10).

7. Remove the ball joint.

When installing a new support, follow the marks made before removal. In this case, the wheel alignment will be almost unchanged.

8. Do not forget to install a spacer washer under the ball joint mounting nuts.

9. Have the wheel alignment checked at a workshop.
