Bleeding the brake system must be performed after hydraulic repairs, when air enters the cylinders and pipelines.
1. Fill the expansion tank with new brake fluid. When bleeding, keep an eye on the level of brake fluid in the reservoir and top up if necessary. Otherwise, its level may decrease and air will be pumped into the system instead of being removed.
2. Remove the protective cap from the appropriate bleeder port. The bleeding sequence is as follows: rear right, rear left, front right, front left.
3. Clean the fitting and put a transparent hose on it (identical to windshield washer hose). Lower the free end of the hose into a container partially filled with brake fluid (see illustration).
4. Ask an assistant to press the brake pedal («sway»), to pressurize the system.
5. Loosen the bleeder valve of the corresponding wheel by about 1 (turn and relieve pressure. At the same time, the assistant must press the brake pedal to the stop and hold it in this position.
6. Close the fitting and pressurize the system again.
7. Open the fitting again.
8. Repeat the above procedure until there are no air bubbles in the hose. If a large amount of brake fluid was drained from the hydraulics before repair work, then the system must be bled in at least two passes.
If air bubbles stop coming out of the system, ask an assistant to hold the brake pedal down and tighten the bleeder screw. Tighten the fitting carefully. Applying too much force may cause the thread to break.
9. Repeat the above procedure for the rest of the wheel brakes.
