If there is no hydraulic oil in the expansion tank, be sure to check the steering system for leaks.

Start the engine and let it idle.

Turn the steering wheel in both directions from lock to lock and hold for a short time. This creates the greatest pressure in the pipes.

In this position, carry out a visual inspection of the following elements:
  • piston valve.
  • sealing the toothed rack. At the same time, loosen the clamp and move the casing to the side.
  • vane pump.
  • pipeline connection points.

1 - tension lever
2 - cylindrical bolt, 20 Nm
3 - V-belt
Size for petrol engine: 9.5x850 mm; for diesel: 9.5x800 mm.
4 - bolt with clamping nut
5 - V-belt pulley
Install so that the "5-Z" marking on the front side is visible. The crankshaft and vane pump pulleys must lie in the same plane.
6 - bolt, 20 Nm
7 - bolt, 25 Nm
8 - lining washer
9 - cylindrical bolt, 20 Nm
10 - bracket
11 - Front pivot arm
12 - nut, 20 Nm
Self-locking, always replace
13 - nut, 20 Nm
14 - bolt, 20 Nm
15 - rear pivot arm
16 - lining washer
17 - Hex bolt
18 - lining washer
19 - Hex bolt
20 - expansion hose
21 - sealing ring Replace.
22 - hollow bolt, 50 Nm
23 - vane pump
24 - suction hose
25 - sealing ring
Replace.
26 - hollow bolt, 50 Nm
27 - bolt, 20 Nm


5-cylinder engine

5-cylinder engine
Since mid-1990, in addition to ZF vane pumps, Vickers pumps have been manufactured. The parts and brackets are not to be confused with each other.
1 - hollow bolt, 45 Nm
2 - sealing ring Replace.
3 - expansion hose
4 - self-locking nut, 20 Nm Replace.
5 - Hex bolt
6 - bracket
7 - tension bolt
8 - V-belt Size: 12.5x992.
9 - V-belt pulley

10 - Hexagon bolt, 20 Nm
Cylindrical bolt 25 Nm (Vickers).
11 - tension lever
12 - cylindrical bolt 25 Nm
13 - hollow bolt, 50 Nm
14 - sealing ring
Replace.
15 - suction hose
16 - Hex Bolt
17 - rear pivot arm
18 - sealing ring
19 - sealing ring
Before installation, fill the suction side with oil and rotate the pump by hand until oil comes out of the discharge side.
20 - self-locking nut, 20 Nm
Replace.
21 - Hexagonal nut, 20 Nm
22 - Front Pivot Arm
